What is Determined to Succeed?
FROM ANTI-BULLYING TO ONLINE RESOURCES
BT Scotland
BT runs a diverse education programme in Scotland, from a major communications roadshow and Schools Awards to specially developed, free web resources for teachers, pupils and parents.
Its roadshow features acting troupe The CragRats, who stage a 30-minute drama about a girl who is bullied. It explores themes of citizenship, communication and personal responsibility, followed by an hour's worth of classroom-based activities. To date the roadshow has visited more than 700 Scottish schools reaching 120,000 pupils.
The BT Schools Awards offers £2000 awards to schools for projects which help pupils’ speaking and listening skills, promote community values and give kids the skills, attitudes and experience they need to become responsible citizens.
BT also provides an army of trained volunteers who deliver communication skills in the classroom, and has developed a free online range of educational materials.
There’s Parents’ Radio – a series of broadcasts hosted by BBC presenter Libby Purves on how to have constructive conversations with teenage kids – and a function for schools to build their own web sites, plus a wealth of other online activities, games and resources.
