Determined to Succeed Speedway Powerpoint Competition (17/08/2007)
After the great success of last years Design a Race jacket competition where we received 700 entries, 2007 marks an exciting development with Glasgow embarking on a very exciting venture .The sport of speedway will be used to motivate young learners, increase their self esteem and help them to be more effective learners and above all raise achievement.
PowerPoint Competition for Primary 6 and 7
To mark the opening of the Speedway Study Support Centre, Determined to Succeed, the Speedway Riders Association and Glasgow Speedway have organised a competition to design a Speedway PowerPoint presentation. The children from Primary 6 and 7, will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the sport of Speedway, a rider or about Glasgow Tigers.
Working in pairs the children must create six slides about speedway including words, photos, animations etc. and a short script of what they would say to describe each slide. It’s up to them.
All details of how to design a PowerPoint and write a short script are included on our website www.glasgowdts.org.uk
Closing date for entries is Tuesday 25th September 2007.
There are two categories Primary 6 and 7 and ASN Primary
All entries will be carefully assessed by a panel of judges, including representatives from DtS and Glasgow Speedway. Ten winners will be invited along to a Graduation Night in October at the Rangers Study Support Centre where they will be asked to present their PowerPoint to the invited audience of riders, parents, teachers and sponsors.
What is Speedway?
You may have seen Speedway Live on Sky Sports on a Monday night. If not, there are a few things you will need to know!
- Speedway is a form of motor-cycle racing and has been around in this country since 1928. Glasgow was one of the very first cities in the UK to stage it!
- Nowadays, Glasgow Tigers race against other teams from around the UK in the British Premier League – one of the toughest speedway leagues in the world involving some very talented riders from around the globe.
- Each team consists of seven riders
- They clash over a series of 15 races
- Speedway bikes are powered by 500cc single cylinder engines, they use fixed gears, have acceleration to match Formula 1 race cars, have NO brakes and virtually NO suspension!
