Day 4 Glasgow Enterprise Week 07 St Rochs NLC Debate (28/01/2008)
St Roch's NLC Pr6 Debate
Pr6 pupils from across St Roch's NLC came together in early December to debate the popular issue of 'School Uniform'. The teams (2 teams of 7 pupils) were a mixture of pupils from 6 primary schools in the learning community, who met together for lessons in debating skills and to prepare for this event for 4 consecutive weeks. Both sides of the argument were well represented on the day of the event, which was attended by all 102 remaining P6 pupils, teachers and parents. The pupils all took part by posing tough questions to the teams, who had to think on their feet to respond with an appropriate and convicing argument. Invited guests included Kate, the schoolwear buyer from John Lewis, who supplies many of our school in the NLC and Paul Martin our local MSP. Paul was so impressed with the standard of debating skills he witnessed that he has invited the two teams to Edinburgh to visit the Parliament Building there and to enjoy lunch at his expense! This is planned to be an annual event.
