St Thomas Aquinas Secondary and The Thistle Hotel - Culinary Excellence (16/11/2009)
St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School’s Intermediate 2 Hospitality students in partnership with The Thistle Hotel, Cambridge Street, Glasgow are delighted to announce that they will be producing and serving lunch for a number of guests to showcase their hospitality skills and expertise, on Tuesday 17th November.
The Glasgow Schools Culinary Excellence Programme delivered for the last 5 years by the Home Economics department has proved to be very successful for the young people, and a thriving partnership between teaching staff and a number of Hotels and Restaurants.
This year, under the teaching and expertise of Joe McQueen of The Thistle Hotel, Julie McGarvie, Home Economics Teacher stated that it “Allows young people the opportunity to study a range of career opportunities in the hotel and hospitality industry” – an area of significant economic growth in Glasgow.
Home Economics Principal Teacher, Mhairi Hamilton commented “Over the past 5 years, the Glasgow Schools Culinary Excellence Programme has been a resounding success, allowing pupils to learn and develop skills for work and skills for life” – key objectives of Determined to Succeed and a Curriculum for Excellence.
